Main floor remodel for a young couple expecting their first child. Yanz Builders and the team at Mitlyng Design updated this northern twin cities walkout rambler from an outdated 80’s special to a cozy mid-century modern home. The floorplan was reconfigured to reorient the kitchen and create one large space where the kitchen, dining and living spaces flow together. We updated an existing fireplace in the living room by removing a bulky brick hearth and flanking it with walnut cabinets with wet bar. We also created a formal primary suite with a walk-in closet and spacious bathroom. An old porch became a nursery just across the hall from the primary suite. The project required moving a staircase which allowed us to add a mudroom off the garage and formalize the front entryway with a walnut slat wall. Phase two includes reconfiguration of two basement bedrooms to add a larger bathroom for the kids. Design by Mitlyng Design.
