Midwest Lake Whole House Remodel
We worked with Locus Architecture and a wonderful client to completely remodel this 1980 house to create a multigenerational home, art gallery, and lakeside retreat. Skylights were installed with exposed collar ties to create light wells in multiple main floor rooms to bring in air and light. A translucent polycarbonate floor in a Douglas Fir-surfaced meditation room above a slatted entry ceiling creates light and shadow as the sun passes overhead. With our clients’ discerning eye and creative ideas, multiple artistic moments, some modest and some eye-catching, were created throughout the home. A screen porch was added off the rear of the home for plenaire dining. All new windows are triple pane, some with floor to ceiling glass to flood the home with light and open views to the lake and trees on the wooded property. New White Ash floors throughout, two built-in benches, and two free-standing tables are an homage to the trees that were removed from the property. Japanese Shoji screens and an Ofuro tub crafted from Hinoki wood help to create the tranquil atmosphere in this space. This project is the culmination of architectural design, artistic vision, and a collaborative approach to building that can create spaces that will bring this family joy for generations to come.
